Auby the Blue Turtle
Chapter 2: The Day the Ocean Wecomed Auby

Auby could feel the warm sunshine on his face, and the soft sand tickled his little nose. He
raced towards the shoreline faster than any other baby turtle born on the beach that day.
Big sea birds swooped down from the sky, trying to catch him before he reached the water.
But Auby flapped his blue flippers so quickly that clouds of sand flew up into the air, making
it impossible for the birds to see him.
When Auby finally reached the ocean, the seawater splashed right up his nose. He sneezed
loudly—and little bubbles popped out behind him.
Auby paused and looked back in surprise to see where the bubbles had come from,
probably his bottom, he thought to himself. It was a funny feeling that made him giggle.
Below him, bright-coloured fish were darting and dancing through the water like flashes of
light.
“I’m free!” shouted Auby joyfully as he splashed happily in the sea.
Just then, two sea creatures swam towards him. They weren’t turtles, he knew that much.
One was a beautiful little orange fish called Forna. The other was a big pink prawn called
Peekay.
Auby wasn’t quite sure what to think about the prawn at first. One of Peekay’s eyes was
looking straight at him, while the other was looking off to the side. Auby’s mummy had told
him that prawns were usually grey—but this prawn was pink and very unusual indeed.
Forna, the orange fish, gently tapped Peekay on the side of his head. With a little wobble,
both of Peekay’s eyes lined up perfectly, and he stared right at Auby.
“Ah, that’s better! I can see you both now!” said the prawn proudly.
“I’m Peekay,” he added, holding out one of his ten little legs and trying very hard to shake
Auby’s flipper politely.
“I’m Auby,” the blue turtle replied to his new funny friend.
